Elmina Sharks midfielder Jay Asamoah Kola has been suspended for one year by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Disciplinary Committee after physically assaulting a referee during a Division One League match against Swedru All Blacks United FC on February 16, 2025.
Kola was found guilty of misconduct after aggressively confronting the referee following a red card decision. The incident, captured in the referee’s report and video footage, led to a disruption of the game, prompting disciplinary action.
Alongside the one-year ban, the GFA committee warned that any further misconduct could result in a lifetime suspension from Ghanaian football. The ruling emphasizes the need to protect match officials and uphold discipline in the league.
Elmina Sharks have been directed to educate players on professional conduct, ensuring respect for match officials. The club retains the right to appeal the decision within seven days.
