David de Gea had a day to forget as Olivier Giroud and Mason Mount helped Chelsea outlcass Manchester United 3-1 in the English FA Cup semi-final at Wembley.
Giroud ensured Chelsea deservedly led with the help of a goalkeeping error from De Gea at the end of the first half.
The Frenchman grabbed his 16th goal in the competition since his debut in January 2013, scoring 13 for Arsenal and 3 for Chelsea which is only second to Sergio Aguero on 19 within that period.
United’s performance was at odds with their recent form and they saw Bailly taken away on a stretcher in a neck brace after a nasty clash of heads with Maguire.
Despite Maguire’s own goal, aunited got a consolation through Bruno Fernandes from a spot-kick after Callum Hudson-Odoi’s clumsy challenge on Anthony Martial.
The result means this is Chelsea’s first victory against Manchester United since the 2018 FA Cup final.
However, United’s focus turns back to the race for the top four in the Premier League as they host West Ham on Wednesday.
Chelsea will eventually prepare for Arsenal in a Wembley return set for 1st August but will confirm their own place in the Champions League spots by beating Liverpool on the final day.
