CHASS Urges Parents to Send Wards to School with Food for Free SHS

Date:

The Conference of Heads of Assisted Senior High Schools (CHASS) has called on parents and guardians to help address the ongoing feeding challenges in senior high schools.

CHASS had previously urged the Ghana Education Service (GES) to delay the reopening of schools, citing unresolved financial issues, including the government’s failure to pay for perishable foods supplied to students last year. However, the GES rejected this request.

Five days after the schools reopened, Primus Baro, the National Secretary of CHASS, told the portals that the situation in high schools is critical, with many institutions resorting to food rationing.

He appealed to parents to support their children by providing food items such as gari, shitor, and sugar to supplement what the school provides.

“I have advised my PTA on this, and I urge parents across the country to ensure their children bring food, as the food situation remains unresolved and has even worsened this year,” Baro said, speaking on Wednesday, January 8. He also noted that the food crisis is particularly severe in schools located in northern Ghana.
