Dekedda Sports Club has become the first Somali club to qualify for the second preliminary round of the Total Energies CAF Champions League in almost forty years.
At the Azam Sports Complex in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Friday, Dekedda SC achieved a historic victory over Arta Solar7 of Djibouti with a thrilling 5-4 aggregate victory.
This achievement has football supporters all around Somalia dreaming of a run in the money zone (group stages) of Africa’s biggest inter-club competition.
After 36 years, Somali clubs had not even won a single match in the qualifiers to even have a sniff at the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League until Dekedda SC’s victory.
The last time a Somali team achieved this level of success was Wagad FC in 1988.
