CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024 & Draw Procedure explained

The draw for the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024 Qualifiers officially takes place this evening in Rabat, Morocco at 18:00 local time (17:00 GMT), where the journey to being crowned continental champions officially gets mapped out.

The Live broadcast of the Draw will be accessible across the world through CAF TV’s Official Channel as well as across all CAF TV partners.

The previous edition of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (2022) broke records both in fan attendance and television audiences, with the 2024 edition expected to be at an even larger scale.

Last year’s final was shown in over 85 countries globally – breaking new grounds for the event and the women’s game on the continent.

TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers Draw Procedure:

A total of 42 nations will be involved in the Qualifiers, which will take the form of home and away, played over two rounds.

Host nation, Morocco are exempted from the qualifiers, while defending champions, South Africa will only engage in the second round.

Qualifiers Format: 

The qualifiers will be composed of the following home and away rounds:

§  1st round: composed of 40 teams. (The best 2 ranked teams in the last Women Africa Cup of nations are exempted from this round).

§  2nd round: the 20 qualified teams from the first round in addition to the 2 exempted teams will play the 2nd round. The 11 winning teams will qualify to the final tournament.

Ranking: 

The winner of the last TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, South Africa is exempted from the first round.

With Morocco automatically qualifying as hosts, the team that finished 3

rd, which is Zambia, will be the second exempted team.

The 40 teams of the first round will be divided into 3 levels:

§  Best 9 ranked teams

§  2nd 9 best ranked teams

§  22 less ranked teams

Seeing the large number of participating team, FIFA rankings will be used for the above ranking.

Level 1: Nigeria – Cameroon – Ghana – Cote d’Ivoire – Guinea Equatorial – Tunisia – Algeria – Mali – Senegal

Level 2: Egypt – Congo – DR Congo – Togo – Gambia – Ethiopia – Cap Vert – Gabon – Guinea

Level 3:

 Angola – Burkina Faso – Benin – Botswana – Burundi – Central Africa – Djibouti – Eswatini – Guinea Bissau – Kenya – Liberia – Libya – Mauritius – Mozambique – Namibia – Niger – Rwanda – Sao Tome – South Sudan – Sudan – Tanzania – Uganda
