Kumasi Asante Kotoko defeated Nigeria’s Kwara United 4-3 in the first leg of the first preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.
The Porcupine Warriors will travel to Nigeria on the back of the first leg advantage in order to secure qualification for the second round.
Kwara came back twice from behind to level scores in the first half through Aule Johnmark’s brace after Emmanuel Antwi and Albert Amoah goals for Kotoko.
The second 45 minutes of the game was as eventful as the first. Center-back Joseph Ablorh powered the MTN FA Cup champions into the lead after just two minutes into the second half.
Karim Zito stunned fans with a triple substitution two minutes after regaining the lead. Goalscorer Ablorh, Amidu, and Amoh went off for Lord, Donzo, and Walid Fuseini.
Albert Amoah looked to have put the game in bed after completing his brace from the spot in the 71st minutes after Asiedu was fouled in the penalty box.
However, the Nigerians showed they still had some fight in them as Shola reduced the deficit in the dying embers of the game.
The return leg in Nigeria will determine which of these two teams make it through to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.
