#BlackStars: We were unlucky with finishing – Otto Addo

Date:

Black Stars coach Otto Addo, after his side lost to an underperforming Super Eagles side on Friday, March 22, 2024, said his side lost because they had no luck with their finishing.

As part of preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers soon coming up, the returning coach of Ghana, Otto Addo, and his men faced Nigeria in Marrakech for the Morocco African Week games.

The 2023 AFCON runners-up got the lead in the 38th minute through Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers after being awarded a penalty.

The Nigerians spent most of the second 45 minutes in their half as the Ghanaians controlled possession in search of an equalizer, but they managed to put themselves in a comfortable position as Ademola Lookman scored six minutes into the end of the match to make it 2-0.

A foul on the persistent Antoine Semenyo, who had missed a glorious chance in the first half, in the penalty box in added time gave his side the opportunity to pull a goal back.

Jordan Ayew stepped up to score, sending Nwabali the wrong way to make the scoreline appear more respectable.

Reacting to the game’s scoreline, the former Black Stars opined that his side had better control of the game and didn’t deserve the loss.

“We controlled them; we were a little bit unlucky with the finishing,” the 43-year-old said.

“I think what killed us was their second goal because we were close to actually equalizing but in all, a draw would have been deserved but like I said we lost and we have to improve and move on,” he added.

Ghana will face Uganda next Tuesday, March 26, 2024, at the Stade de Marrakech.
