Asante Kotoko moved out of the relegation zone following a remarkable 1-0 victory over defending champions Medeama SC at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in matchweek 11 of the BetPawa Premier League on Sunday.
Following a winless run in the past three match weeks, Kotoko emerged victorious after Sheriff Mohammed converted from the spot in the 60th minute over the CAF Champions League contenders, Medeama SC.
Under-fire coach Prosper Narteh Ogum made a massive reshuffle in the starting lineup compared to the side that lost away to FC Samartex 1996.
One notable player to have lost a starting berth was goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim after his disastrous performance in his last outing.
Both sides engaged in an end-to-end encounter in the first half as they struggled to find the back of the net.
However, on the hour mark, Kotoko were awarded a penalty, which Sheriff Mohammed expertly converted to grab maximum points for his side.
In other results, Real Tamale United defeated Dreams FC 3-1 at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium.
Berekum Chelsea edged Legon Cities 1-0 thanks to Patrick Kofi Ansu’s late strike.
Barima Baah’s 10th-minute strike delivered a stunning 1-0 away win over Bibiani GoldStars, while Bofoakwa Tano and Nsoatreman FC played out a goalless draw.
