‎Amaarae slams critics over Coachella performance brouhaha

Date:

United States based Ghanaian singer, Amaarae has responded to critics who claimed her song is the biggest hit Ghana has ever produced.‎

‎It could be recalled that the songstress performed at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival over the weekend.

‎During her performance she bragged about her song “Wasted Eyes” as the biggest hit Ghana has ever produced which did not go down well with some Ghanaians.

‎Addressing this in an X post on April 14, Amaarae clarified that her performance was the culmination of a lifelong mission to elevate Ghanaian music to the global stage.

‎“Can’t please everybody unfortunately. & usually, I don’t address this type of stuff but last night I gave my heart and soul to a cause I’ve worked towards my whole entire life and I’m elated with the result!!!! I’ve used my voice various times & as always people don’t have all the info but it is what it is !!!” she wrote.

‎Amaarae used her moment on the Coachella stage to put a spotlight on Ghana and even performed tracks by Joey B, the Asakaa boys, La Même Gang, and Eazzy.

‎Though she suffered criticism from some social media users, she was widely praised by most Ghanaians and some musicians including Sarkodie.

‎A section of the public also criticized her for what they termed as “silence” over some national issues like illegal mining.
