Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has arrested three foreign nationals in connection with the seizure of 46.7 kilogrammes of cocaine at Beirut’s Rafic Hariri International Airport in Lebanon.
The suspects, comprising a Syrian, a Tunisian and a Lebanese national, were arrested in separate intelligence-led operations in Ghana on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, following intelligence shared by Lebanese law enforcement authorities.
The group comprises two men and a woman. Two of the suspects were arrested earlier in the day in Accra, while the third was apprehended at about 5 p.m.
Their arrests follow the interception of the cocaine consignment at Beirut airport on Saturday, October 31, 2026, after a Syrian passenger arrived from Accra aboard a Middle East Airlines flight with the drugs concealed in two pieces of luggage.
According to Lebanese Customs authorities, officers discovered 40 packages containing a total of 46.7 kilogrammes of cocaine during a search of the passenger’s luggage.
The drugs were reportedly concealed using sophisticated packaging and insulation materials designed to evade detection by airport scanning equipment. The passenger was arrested upon arrival.
Investigations are now underway in Ghana and Lebanon to establish how the consignment was transported from Accra to Beirut and identify individuals suspected of facilitating the shipment.
The three suspects arrested in Ghana are being investigated to determine their alleged roles in the operation and whether they have links to a wider international drug trafficking network.
Ghanaian and Lebanese security agencies are exchanging intelligence and collaborating to trace the shipment and uncover other individuals who may have been involved.
The arrests underscore growing cooperation between law enforcement agencies in the two countries in tackling cross-border drug trafficking, with intelligence provided by Lebanese authorities leading to the arrests in Ghana just days after the cocaine seizure.
As of the time of publication, the identities of the three suspects had not been made public. NACOC had also not issued an official statement on the arrests, with details of the operation attributed to sources familiar with the investigation.
