Heart of Lions player Mustapha Yakubu has confessed he nearly moved to Accra Hearts of Oak on the final day of the transfer window.
Yakubu helped Kpando Heart of Lions return to the Ghana Premier League in 2023 following a long eight years in the wilderness.
The Black Galaxies of Ghana forward joined Israeli side Hapoel Umm al-Fahm in 2025 before moving to Azerbaijan where his career became plagued by injuries.
He finally made a return to his first love, Heart of Lions during the 2026 summer transfer window after turning down the glorious Hearts of Oak.
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, Heart of Lions will go toe-to-toe with Hearts of Oak at the University of Ghana Stadium — a match Yakubu hopes to make an impact.
“I’ve so much respect for Hearts of Oak, but we need the points. We need the points more than them so we are going in for the three points,” he said to Josiah Okoe Quaye on Max TV.
