Actor and director, Adjah Stephen Tetteh , has appealed to the government to build ultra-modern theatres for the creative arts industry to enable practitioners to stage their plays.
According to him, the country lacks adequate venues for stage productions.
Speaking in an exclusive interview on Max Morning Show in Accra on Thursday, Tetteh noted that the lack of theatres has crippled the industry.
He said staging a play is expensive, and the onus lies on the government to support practitioners to tell their stories to a larger audience.
Tetteh observed that while advancements in technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have reduced the cost of screen productions, stage plays still require heavy investment to thrive.
“Stage is very expensive. After you set up and put a beautiful piece together, and people don’t show up, it becomes extra expensive. And that’s why we keep appealing to government – we need more investors in that space. We need more venues to be able to stage those plays. Venues like the National Theatre, we barely have them,” he pleaded.
