Should the National Sports Authority (NSA) be relieved of its stadia maintenance duties?

The Sports and Recreation Minister of Ghana, Hon. Kofi Adams, has called for the decoupling of the two main responsibilities of the NSA.

Over the years, the NSA, under the management of numerous Director-Generals, has been many times criticised for the bad handling of national sports facilities.

Maintaining facilities and overseeing the running of sports federations are the main responsibilities of the NSA (rather than facilitating visas).

Hon. Adams believes the responsibility of facilities management can be handed over to the private sector so that the NSA solely focuses on the sports federations.

“We should decouple the responsibilities of the NSA overseeing federations and maintaining facilities and introduce the private sector participation in our facilities management.

“Then the NSA can focus on federation development and governance, training, etc. for them to be able to utilise these facilities that the private persons are maintaining regularly,” he said on Max TV.
