The Ghana Police Service’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team has arrested Promise Yayra Asamani, a 20-year-old woman, for falsely accusing an Uber driver of murder in a widely shared Snapchat post.

She was arrested after she failed to honour a police invitation to help with the investigations.

Based on a police report, the Uber driver, Selasie Kwaku Anthonio, a 43-year-old man, lodged a complaint on the 11th of March, 2026, after he noticed a post declaring accusing him by Promise.

Investigations led to the arrest of Stephanie Asamani, a sister of Promise, on the 13th of March, 2026. She told investigators during an investigation that she had narrated her encounter with the Uber driver, which she found suspicious, to her sisters when she got home.
She stated she saw a rag and a hammer in the boot of the vehicle. Stephanie said She realised the story had been posted on Snapchat.

Further investigations affirmed that Promise was the originator of the post in which she labelled the Uber driver as a killer. Promise claimed she posted the video to ‘create awareness’.

Promise accepted that the post was entirely based on her sister’s words and that she had no evidence to back her accusations.

Promise has been granted police enquiry bail on the 16th of March while investigations persist. The police warned the public that posting inaccurate information was against the country’s laws and can be punishable.
