TRANSFER ROUND-UP: Semenyo, Adjetey Secure Big Moves

Date:

The 2026 winter transfer window for the Premier League and major leagues in Europe ended on Monday night.

Max Online analyses the biggest deals and failed moves during the winter window.

Some players were able to switch clubs in a big-money move, while others failed to leave their current clubs for some reasons.

Here are the biggest transfers and failed moves of the 2026 January winter window:

Biggest January Transfers:

Antoine Semenyo

Manchester City saw off competition from Liverpool, Manchester United, and Tottenham to activate Semenyo’s £65 million buy-out clause.

Semenyo’s move to Pep Guardiola’s is the most hotly anticipated deal of the month.

Jonas Adjetey

VFB Wolfsburg on deadline day from Swiss side FC Basel. He signed a contract that will see him remain at the Bundesliga club from 2026 to 2030.

Jorgen Strand Larsen

Crystal Palace completed a deadline-day transfer signing of Larsen on Monday for a club record of £48 million from Wolves.

This comes after a late move to Premier League side Everton collapsed.

Lucas Paquetá

Paqueta left West Ham United to join his boyhood Brazilian club Flamengo after snubbing the likes of Chelsea and Tottenham in a deal worth £35.8 million.

Brennan Johnson

Johnson, 24, became Crystal Palace’s record signing, surpassing the £32 million they paid Liverpool for Christian Benteke back in 2016 before the acquisition of Larsen.

Conor Gallagher

Tottenham Hotspur secured the signing of former Chelsea star Gallagher from Atletico Madrid for £34.6 million, beating their closest competitor, Aston Villa.

Ademola Lookman

Lookman finally got his wish to leave Atalanta as he joined Atletico Madrid for a deal worth £30.2 million after a long-standing issue with the Bergamo club.

Failed Transfers:

Jean-Philippe Mateta

Mateta failed to leave Crystal Palace for AC Milan on transfer deadline day after he failed his medical with AC Milan.

Josh Acheampong

Acheampong failed to leave Chelsea for Crystal Palace on transfer deadline day. This comes after the Blues rejected Palace’s bid to sign Acheampong in a late transfer deal.

Raphael Onyedika

Onyedika failed to get his wish to leave Club Brugge this summer transfer window despite strong interest from Galatasaray and VFL Wolfsburg.
