Morocco Becomes 2nd African Country to Win U-20 World Cup

Date:

Morocco has become the second African country to win the FIFA U-20 World Cup.

The young Atlas Lions follow in the footsteps of the Black Starlets of Ghana, who won in 2009 by beating Argentina 2-0 at Estadio Nacional Julio Martínez Prádanos in Chile.

What a decade it has been for Moroccan football. From their senior team’s semi-final achievement to the under-20s’ first-ever World Cup.

Yassir Zabiri opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a free kick and doubled Morocco’s lead 17 minutes later from a close-range shot.

The Argentines proved to be no match for the skilful and pacy young Moroccans, who defended well, controlled the midfield, and broke into relentless attacks.
