Gh Musicians Are ‘Dumb’ for Keeping Catalogues— FimFim

Date:

Rapper FimFim has countered public attacks on colleagues who are selling off their catalogues, saying they are not “dumb”.‎

It could be recalled that a cross section of Ghanaians were after the tails of some musicians like Shatta Wale and Sarkodie for selling off their catalogues to a streaming platform.

They believed that catalogue selling would destroy the culture and identity of Ghana, something the country should not encourage.

As much as some catalogues might be personal to the artiste, FimFim said the musicians selling their catalogues had a motive and reasons behind their action.

Speaking in an interview with Max Drive in Accra on Thursday, FimFim indicated that there were guidelines and reasons to make catalogue selling worth it.

“Whether I will sell my catalogue or not will depend on certain things. First of all, I will look at my career and where I have reached. Do I need any extra funds to propel me to the next level?”

“Certain catalogues are personal, so I will also consider how the catalogues are personal to me. For the duration, you can sell the catalogues for a period of time. I wouldn’t want to sell it forever or in perpetuity,” he said.

The music producer maintained that those selling their catalogues had their own personal interest.

I wouldn’t want to call those selling their catalogues as dumb because they also have their reasons for doing so,” he added.
