Ghana’s Kumasi Asante Kotoko have won the 2025 Toyota Cup, defeating Kaizer Chiefs 3-2 in a penalty shootout.
It appears to be a sweet weekend for Ghana football as the 2024/25 FA Cup winners, Kotoko, followed up on the Black Queens triumph over Banyana Banyana in the WAFCON for bronze medal, with a win over the Amakhosi.
The performance of Karim Zito’s men was hugely encouraging ahead of their 2025/26 CAF Confederation Cup campaign, which kicks off in a few weeks.
Henry Ansu (Kotoko) and Glodly Lilepo (Chiefs) came closest to handing their respective teams the lead in the first half, as it ended goalless, in part due to sharp goalkeeping.
The Soweto giants got a chance to seal victory with a penalty in the final five minutes after Mmodi went down, but Inacio Miguel scooped well wide.
Kotoko managed to hold their resolve to win in a nervy penalty shootout. Mohammed Camara saved the final spot kick to ensure the Porcupine Warriors leave the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban with hefty prize money.
