Belgian international and Manchester City winger, Jeremy Baffour Doku, paid a courtesy call on Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, during his off-season stay in the country.

The visit was part of Doku’s efforts to reconnect with his Ghanaian heritage and express his commitment to supporting charitable and sports development initiatives in Ghana.

Accompanied by his father, Mr. Davies Doku, and other family members, 23-year-old Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku paid a courtesy visit to Ghana’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams, during his off-season stay in the country.

The visit aimed to reaffirm his Ghanaian roots and outline his commitment to supporting sports and health-related initiatives in Ghana.

“I cannot shine unless people put me on,” Doku shared. “I’m proud of my Ghanaian heritage—I speak Twi, and I intend to come back more often to give back.”

Hon. Adams warmly welcomed the Doku family, praising Jeremy as a global ambassador of Ghanaian excellence.

“Ghana may not field you in our national jersey, but every time you step on the pitch, Ghana is mentioned,” the Minister noted. “Your humility and discipline make you a powerful role model for our youth. The Ministry is ready to support any initiative you wish to pursue here.”
The Minister also acknowledged challenges in Ghana’s talent identification systems and stressed the importance of investing in grassroots development.
“Sometimes we blame ourselves for not discovering such talent early enough,” he admitted. “Your success story reminds us to strengthen scouting and development structures right here at home.”

Leading the delegation, Lady Dentaa Amoateng MBE revealed that Doku had already made quiet philanthropic visits to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital and Achimota Hospital, where he offered support to both patients and healthcare workers.

She noted that these acts were just the beginning of Doku’s broader commitment to charity work in Ghana, with plans to expand efforts across multiple regions during future visits.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of souvenirs and an invitation from the Ministry for Doku to attend upcoming youth football clinics.

Both parties expressed strong optimism that this partnership will help inspire Ghana’s next generation of athletes and strengthen ties between Ghanaian diaspora stars and local sports communities.
