Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has praised his team’s impressive second-half display in Wednesday’s 4-2 victory over Benin as part of their build-up to the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
Ghana came from behind to win the match in Benslimane after trailing 2-1 at halftime. Goals from Nina Norshie, Alice Kusi, Susan Duah, and Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah sealed the comeback—making it two wins from two friendlies for the Queens in their pre-WAFCON campaign.
“It was a good game. Great second half,” said Bjorkegren. “We struggled a bit midway through the first half, but once we settled down and started playing our game, we were clearly the better side. Scoring four goals—and even creating more chances—is a big boost. The attack is improving, and I’m pleased with the progress. That’s seven goals in two matches.”
The Black Queens will wrap up their preparations with a high-profile friendly against Nigeria on Saturday, June 28.
Ghana begins their WAFCON campaign on July 5 in Morocco, placed in Group C alongside defending champions South Africa, Tanzania, and Mali. The Queens are aiming for their maiden continental title in what will be their 13th tournament appearance.
