‎Epixode finds Lord Kenya’s Patois shade disrespectful

Date:

Renowned Reggae/dancehall performer Epixode has expressed worry about how some veteran musicians shade and trash the crafts of the younger ones in the industry.

‎According to him, that goes a long way to disrespect the craft of the young artists and advised the veterans to guide their utterances.

‎His comment follows a remark made by the former secular artiste who is now a pastor, Lord Kenya who criticized the young musicians for using inappropriate patois in their songs.

‎In a recent media interview to respond to the criticism, Epixode called for mutual respect and acknowledgement of the works by the young musicians.

‎“I won’t get it 100%. It will sound cliché in the ears of real Jamaicans. It’s like a Ga like me trying to speak Twi. What we speak here is not really Patois. No disrespect, but some of these comments make the young ones feel disrespected.

‎They will say, ‘In your prime, we respect you, so why are you trying to trash our hard work in our prime?’ That becomes a problem,” he said.

‎Epixode underscored the need for veterans to view upcoming artists as carrying on their legacies rather than destroying them.

‎“I really don’t want to speak about that, but I think sometimes they should see us as continuing their legacy. Else, the next generation will find themselves fighting them and it’ll always continue like that. Let’s enjoy music. Whether it’s Patois or not,” he added.
