England suffer first defeat to an African country — Senegal

Date:

Senegal became the first African country to defeat the Three Lions of England in an international friendly.

Thomas Tuchel’s England were toothless and difficult to watch throughout the encounter, but the Africans were loving every single bit of it.

A frustrating night for England began well as all-time leading goal scorer Harry Kane banged home his 73rd goal in the 6th minute.

Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr stunned the home team with the equaliser five minutes before half-time.

Habib Diarra worsened the plight of the Three Lions with a shock lead for the Teranga Lions in the 62nd minute of the game.

England’s search for an equaliser proved futile as Jude Bellingham’s goal was disallowed for handball.

The visitors sealed their impressive victory with a 93rd goal by Cheikh Sabaly through a fast-paced counter-attack.

England had 15 wins and six draws from their previous 21 matches against African opponents, but here they were well beaten in the end.
