2024/25 GPL Week 32 : Hearts of Oak 3-1 Accra Lions

Date:

Hearts of Oak delivered an impressive performance to secure a 3-1 victory over Accra Lions in their Week 32 Ghana Premier League clash at the Accra Sports Stadium.

An early strike from Enoch Asubonteng and late goals from Kofi Asmah and Hamza Issah sealed back-to-back wins for the Phobians. Lawrence Setordjie scored a brilliant long-range goal for the Lions but was forced off moments later due to injury.

The home side started brightly, with Raphael Amponsah threatening early before Asubonteng opened the scoring in the 11th minute after a solo run down the left.

Accra Lions slowly grew into the game, with Yao Sokpoli and Setordjie testing goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who stood firm. Asamoah Boateng nearly added a second, only for his effort to be cleared off the line by Issah.

After halftime, Accra Lions brought on Daniel Acquah and Edmund Amakye, which gave them more control. Their pressure paid off when Setordjie rifled home an equaliser following a corner.

But Lions’ defensive lapses proved costly. A failed clearance allowed Issah to set up Asmah for Hearts’ second, before Issah finished off a quick counterattack to seal the win.

The result boosts Hearts of Oak’s chances of a strong finish as the season nears its end.
