Ghanaian musicians are financially weak—Efya

Date:

Renowned vocalist Efya Nokturnal says the lack of support for Ghanaian musicians has deprived them of gaining well paid shows for them to spend extravagantly on fans.‎

‎According to her, Ghanaian musicians cannot rob shoulders with their Nigerian counterparts in terms of finances.

‎Speaking in a recent media interview, Efya noted that Nigerian musicians were doing cash giveaways due to their financial muscle.

‎Citing a Ghanaian fan who received $5,000 from Nigerian musician Davido for promoting his track “With You,” which featured Omah Lay, she said Davido gets well paid gigs unlike Ghanaian musicians.

‎”We don’t have as much money as the Nigerians to engage in such generous giveaways. Even though we stand shoulder to shoulder with Nigerian artistes in many areas, financially it’s simply not the same. I don’t mind admitting that,” she said.

‎Efya clarified that while Ghanaian artistes also showed appreciation to their fans, they tend to do so in private rather than in public.

‎She said she has personally supported fans by paying school fees and offering gifts but admitted that she has never handed out a sum as substantial as $5,000.

‎Efya therefore called for support in order for Ghanaian musicians to get well paid international gigs for them to gain financial strength to also give out in the same manner as the Nigerians.
