Five GPL stars to be named in Black Stars roster for Unity Cup

Date:

Five locally based players are expected to be selected for the Black Stars roster for the upcoming 2025 Unity Cup tournament in London.

The Black Stars of Ghana, together with West African rivals Nigeria, Jamaica, and Trinidad and Tobago, would take part in the historically exciting competition.

Brentford’s G-Tech Stadium will play host to the competing country, illuminating the respective cultures and traditions of the participating countries in West London, England.

Despite the wish of many to triumph at the tournament, the real triumph would be to continue the steady building of a new resilient Black Stars ahead of the resumption of the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, and his technical staff have scouted a number of locally based players and decided on adding two more to the three Ghana Premier League (GPL) stars called up for the last international games.

Asante Kotoko pair Andrews Ntim Manu and Kwame Opoku would add to Kamaradini Mamudu, Razack Simpson and current number one goalkeeper for the senior national team, Benjamin Asare, for the four-nation tournament.

Ghana would compete in her first match against West African rivals Nigeria in the “jollof derby” on May 28 for a place in the final after Trinidad and Tobago had taken on Caribbean rivals, Jamaica, in the day before.

All matches would be live, exclusively, on Max TV.
