NFA warns movie producers to obtain Film License

Date:

The National Film Authority (NFA) has called on movie producers to obtain and renew their producer licences by May 1, 2025.

This is to enable the authority to classify films in the country before public exhibitions.

According to a statement issued in Accra on April 7 by the Executive Secretary of the NFA, Kafui Danku-Pitcher, the order is stipulated in the Development and Classification of Film Act, 2016 (Act 935) to ensure films in Ghana pass through the legal procedure before they are exhibited.

Only licensed producers will be permitted to access the film classification process from that date onwards,” the statement said.

The NFA declared that every producer submitting content for classification should hold a valid Film Producer Licence issued by the authority.

The producer licence is not only a legal requirement but also an important step toward streamlining the industry and ensuring accountability, quality, and structure in content development and dissemination,” it said.

In building a vibrant industry, the NFA called for collaboration among stakeholders to build a world-class industry that respects both creative expression and the rights of audiences.
