MAX SCHOOL-CONNECT NOTICE BOARD: Achimota Hit-and-run driver arrested

Date:

The driver responsible for the hit-and-run accident that claimed the lives of former Achimota students Davida Asante Boateng and Lilian Akorli has been arrested, their families confirm.

The arrest occurred on March 7 after a police chase on the night of the incident. Eyewitnesses reported that the driver fled after hitting the victims, leaving bystanders to rush them to the hospital, where they arrived at 12:02 AM.

Davida and Lilian, both members of the Old Achimotan Association (OAA24) and former residents of Stopford House, were returning to the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) after attending a bonfire celebration at Achimota School when the accident happened along the Achimota Highway.

Their tragic deaths have left the Achimota School community in mourning and reignited calls for improved road safety.

Alice Safoa, Davida’s aunt, recounted the events leading to the driver’s arrest.

“The accident happened around 10:30 PM. The police said they arrested the driver after a chase, but hospital staff mentioned he had sought refuge there, fearing an attack from eyewitnesses. After his arrest, he was hospitalized due to ill health but has since recovered and is back in police custody.”

Charlotte Otchere, a close friend of Lilian, shared heartfelt memories of their time together.

“She was my classmate and close friend. We sat near each other in class. We had our ups and downs, but we were fine before completing school,” she recalled.

On March 8, the Old Achimotan Association 2024 issued a statement confirming the tragic deaths of Lilian and Davida and extended their deepest condolences to the bereaved families.
