JUST IN: Accra Stadium hosts Ghana-Chad qualifier

Date:

The Accra Sports Stadium will host Ghana’s 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Chad, set for Matchday 5 between March 17 and 25, 2025.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) did not nominate any alternative venue for Confederation of African Football (CAF) inspection, reaffirming Accra as the primary home ground.

The stadium last hosted a competitive game in November 2024, when Ghana lost 2-1 to Niger in a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier. Following that match, the National Sports Authority (NSA) closed the facility for pitch maintenance by Green Grass Technology. Three months later, the pitch has seen significant improvements.

Though CAF inspectors have not visited recently, they remain in communication with the GFA and Ministry of Sports regarding the stadium’s condition. With the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi disqualified due to technical issues, Accra Sports Stadium has reclaimed its spot as the Black Stars’ home venue.

In response to CAF’s earlier decision, the NSA upgraded the Accra facility, ensuring approval for Ghana’s crucial qualifier against Sudan. The Cape Coast Stadium, previously disqualified in March 2022, leaves Accra as Ghana’s only CAF- and FIFA-approved venue for Category A matches.
