JUST IN: GFA to Meet Asante Kotoko Leadership on February 20

Date:

Asante Kotoko SC has confirmed that Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Mr. Kurt Okraku, will meet with the club’s leadership on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the club’s secretariat.

The meeting is part of ongoing engagements following the tragic events at Nana Koramansah Park, where devoted Kotoko supporter Francis ‘Nana Pooley’ Frimpong lost his life after being fatally stabbed during the club’s Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman.

In response to the incident, Kotoko has been vocal in its calls for justice and accountability, suspending all football-related activities in protest. The club has also demanded urgent reforms to enhance the safety of players, officials, and supporters at football venues nationwide.

In an official statement, Asante Kotoko welcomed the GFA President’s visit, reiterating its commitment to driving meaningful change in Ghanaian football.

“This meeting is part of our continued engagements following the tragic events at Nana Koramansah Park. We welcome the GFA President’s visit as we persist in our pursuit of justice and meaningful reforms to safeguard the integrity of Ghanaian football,” the statement read.

The discussions are expected to focus on improving security at league venues, the welfare of supporters, and Kotoko’s stance on future participation in domestic competitions.

As the club continues to mourn the loss of Nana Pooley, it remains steadfast in its call for significant improvements to prevent such incidents from recurring. The outcome of Thursday’s meeting could play a crucial role in determining Kotoko’s next steps regarding their involvement in the Ghana Premier League and other competitions.
