Saija calls for emergency meeting with GFA

Date:

The chairman of the Referees Association of Ghana(RAG), George Saija, is requesting an emergency meeting with the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

Saija, a retired banker and referee, expressed concerns on the security protocols ahead of the commencement of the round of 16 of the MTN FA Cup from Friday, February 21 to 23.

He noted that the fact that referees are insured doesn’t require them being thrown into games with uncertain security measures.

“We need an emergency meeting with the FA. If they even call us tonight, my members are in town; we will ride there and discuss two critical issues. As for the others, we have forwarded to the Minister of Sports and Recreation to sit with us and the FA,” Saija said on Max FM’s Sports Pack show.

Meanwhile, following recent violence at football match centres, the call to employ stringent security measures by many appears to be heeded by the GFA.

GFA President, Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, assured during a matchday safety protocols training workshop on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, of the Association’s determination on avoiding repeats of violence on referees, fans, and players witnessed so far in the 2024-25 football season in Ghana.
