Parliament approves Kofi Adams as Sports Minister

Date:

Ghana’s Parliament has approved Kofi Adams as the new Minister of Sports and Recreation, replacing Mustafa Ussif, who served in the role since 2021 under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government led by Nana Akufo-Addo.

Adams is expected to revamp the sports sector, focusing on improving infrastructure, securing better funding for national teams, and enhancing performance at major international tournaments. At 49 years old, he is set to be sworn in by President John Mahama in the coming days.

His appointment was part of a broader ministerial reshuffle approved by Parliament on Tuesday, which also saw Rashid Pelpuo appointed as Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment; Joseph Nikpe as Minister for Transport; Murtala Ibrahim as Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology; and Sam George as Minister for Communications.

Prior to his approval, Adams underwent vetting by the Appointments Committee last week.
