I was disrespected in my political journey – John Dumelo

Date:

The Member of Parliament elect for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has expressed concern about critics who made mockery of his capabilities as a politician due to his acting background.

According to him, the act was disrespectful and stigmatized those in the showbiz industry from engaging in active politics.

Responding to critics in a recent media interview, the actor noted that many made mockery of his political career and even downplayed his efforts, which he deemed as disrespectful.

He referenced a number of MPs with diverse professional backgrounds, including law, medicine, and business, serving in parliament, and wondered why an actor could not make it to the country’s parliament.

“I see it as a little bit disrespectful because you have lawyers, you have doctors, you have businessmen in Parliament. We even had hairdressers in parliament,” Dumelo added.

He stated that entertainers wielded power and politicians, even ran to them for endorsement during political campaigns; hence, should not be an issue when those influential persons wanted to venture into active politics.

“And so, for me, that stigma is just one of those things I just laugh about it when people say it.

But all in all, it’s for us to represent the people well,” he further noted.

John Dumelo won the Ayawaso West Wuogon seat in his third contest with 47,560 votes, beating incumbent MP Lydia Seyram Alhassan, who polled 39,214 votes.
