Hearts’ Reject Obeng Jr. Leads Lions to Win Over Kotoko, Declares Himself a “Big Player”

Date:

Heart of Lions delivered a major upset to Asante Kotoko, clinching a narrow 1-0 victory at the Len Clay Stadium in Obuasi. This win marks Kotoko’s second consecutive defeat in the Ghana Premier League this season.

The decisive goal came from former Hearts of Oak forward Kwadwo Obeng Jr., who took advantage of a costly error by Kotoko’s goalkeeper, Mohamed Camara, in the 28th minute. Camara’s attempted clearance went astray, allowing Obeng Jr. to tap the ball into an open net and secure Lions’ first away win of the season.

Speaking on Max FM’s Pack, Obeng Jr. extended his gratitude, saying, “I will say a big thank you to Doctor Randy Abbey and Coach Bashir Hayford for the goal, but now I feel I am a big player.”

Despite dominating with 62% possession and registering 10 shots compared to Lions’ 4, Kotoko struggled to break through a disciplined Lions defense. Each team managed only one shot on target, reflecting a closely contested battle, but it was Lions who capitalized on their critical chance.

This loss pushes Kotoko down from second to third on the league table, adding pressure as they prepare for their next clash against Bechem United. Meanwhile, Heart of Lions move up to seventh place and aim to maintain their momentum in their upcoming game against Berekum Chelsea.

After the match, a confident Obeng Jr. stated, “I believe I am a big player now, and moments like these are what define me. I’m thrilled to deliver for my team when it matters most.”

This victory serves as a statement win for Heart of Lions, signaling they’re ready to take on top contenders this season.
