PL WRAP: Partey shines for Arsenal, Chelsea edge Newcastle

Date:

The 2024-25 Premier League continued over the weekend, as Chelsea, Nottingham Forest, West Ham, Manchester City, Brentford, and Crystal Palace recorded wins.

Nottingham Forest kicked off the weekend on Friday with a deserving 1-3 victory over Leicester City, led by their former manager Steve Cooper.

Jean-Philipe Mateta secured Crystal Palace’s first win of the league campaign through an instinctive 31st minute strike against Tottenham Hotspurs at Selhurst Park.

Jarod Bowen scored a late winner from the penalty spot to hand West Ham United an important 2-1 win over Manchester United.

Former Real Madrid star Casemiro cancelled out Somerville’s opener for the Hammers before a questionable call by the referee to hand the home team a penalty, which they converted for the win.

Manchester City managed a narrow 1-0 home win over Southampton, courtesy of a 5th-minute goal by Erling Haaland.

Beto spared the blushes of Everton manager Sean Dyche by scoring the last-minute equalizer after Alex Iwobi had given Fulham the lead at Goodison Park.

Evanilson stunned spectators at Villa Park with a late leveler, striking out Ross Barkley’s opener for Aston Villa.

A late resurgence by Wolverhampton Wanderers through Ait Nouri and Matheus Cunha saw Brighton and Hove Albion surrender a two-goal lead at the Amex Stadium.

The buzzing bees of Brentford overturned a two-goal deficit to a 4-3 win at home.

Bryan Mbuemo’s brace, coupled with a goal from Wissa and an own-goal proved crucial in their win over Ipswich.

At the Stamford Bridge on Sunday, Cole Palmer scored yet again as Chelsea defeated Newcastle United 2-1.

Nicholas Jackson scored Chelsea’s first before Isak equalizer before halftime, but the in-form England international, Palmer, bagged the winner minutes into the second half.

Arsenal were held at the Emirates in a 2-2 draw by Liverpool on Sunday afternoon. Mohammed Salah restored parity once again after Mikel Merino had given the home side a 2-1 lead.
