The head coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has refused to guarantee his side winning the return leg of the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Sudan on Monday, October 14.
Ghana put up an improved performance against Sudan in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, October 10, despite ending the match goalless.
West Ham star and now Ghana captain Mohammed Kudus, Fenerbache’s Alexander Djiku, and Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo came closest to scoring for Ghana but for the superb performances of Sudan goalkeeper Mohammed Mustapha.
The current form of the Black Stars may seem normal in football, but the Black Stars is synonymous to Spain’s Real Madrid where the best is expected on a regular basis.
Speaking to the press after the game, Otto Addo admitted he couldn’t guarantee victory for Ghana in the next, painting their chances of qualifying very slim.
“This is football. I cannot even assure [my life]. Maybe God will take my life tomorrow. We will try our best, and I know that at the end we will be rewarded,” Addo stated.
He nevertheless remains positive of the Black Stars being capable of turning things around.
“The positive thing I want to tell all of you is that it’s still in our own hands. We have to win the next game, and that’s all. But we can win the next game and still not qualify. We have a long way to go,” he added.
