If you cannot surpass the standard, don’t lower it – Nsoatreman to Yaw Preko

Date:

The reigning champions of the 2023-24 MTN FA Cup, Nsoatreman FC, through its general manager, Eric Alagidede, has charged head coach Yaw Preko not to lower the club’s standard.

Preko, 50, took over as head coach of Nsoatreman in July 2024, following Maxwell Konadu’s leaving for South African second division side, Black Leaopards.

After failing to achieve one of his targets, which was to qualify the club for the group stages of the 2024-25 CAF Confederations Cup, Preko, formerly of the King Faisal Football Club, has now better Nsoatreman’s 4th place finish in the previous season and possibly winning the Ghana Premier League.

“We have not asked Yaw to win the league, but the good thing is that as one of his targets, to get us to the group stages [of the CAF Confederation Cup], obviously we knew it was a tall order; it didn’t happen. What we have told him is that if you cannot surpass the standard, don’t lower it,” Alagidede said on Max FM.

The former Black Stars player, who also doubles as head coach for Ghana’s U-15 team, according to Alagidede, has been furnished with an extremely good young squad with good depth and thus would be expected to challenge to for the league title and successfully defending the MTN FA Cup title, or simply put, return Nsoatreman to continental football.
