2025 AFCON Q: John Paintsil, NSA confident of Baba Yara readiness

Date:

Black Stars assistant coach John Paintsil, along with the National Sports Authority (NSA), are confident of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium being in top shape ahead of the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The National Sports Authority (NSA) came under intense criticism after footage of a five-day church crusade was being held on the pitch of the CAF-approved Baba Yara Sports Stadium, which infuriated a score of Ghanaians.

The NSA’s maintenance culture came into question when a video was posted online of its bizarre method of trying to grow the grass on the pitch with just a couple of weeks left for Ghana’s game against Angola.

Henry Asante Twum, the communications director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), revealed John Paintsil had sent a report on the pitch’s condition while the NSA assured of getting the pitch ready.

“We sent John Paintsil to assess the readiness of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium pitch, and he submitted a report to his boss about what he saw. The long and short of that story is that the venue has been approved by CAF while receiving an assurance from the National Sports Authority about doing all it can to get the pitch in ready for game,” he said on Max FM.
