The 2026 FIFA World Cup, hosted by the USA, Canada, and Mexico, may serve as an opportunity for football fans to emigrate in search of greener pastures, thereby putting the immigration agencies of the host countries on high alert.
The possibility of this happening depends highly on the Black Stars of Ghana’s qualification for the World Cup.
Responding to the question in the Ghana-CAR pre-match presser on Sunday about Ghanaians viewing the World Cup as an opportunity to travel to the USA for greener pastures, Otto Addo advised Qatar also offers “a lot of job opportunities.”
“I don’t know; maybe Ghanaians should know that there are a lot of job opportunities in Qatar as well. But surely we just want to go there.”
The quest to secure visas by Ghanaians looking to take advantage of the tournament could mount unwanted pressure on the Black Stars as they strive to earn a spot in the global showpiece.
On the night of Monday, June 10, 2024, Ghana will take on the Central African Republic in a round-four clash of the qualification for the World Cup at 7 p.m.
