#TotalEnergiesCAFCC: The dream ends for Dreams FC

Date:

Dreams Football Club has been knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup following a disappointing 0-3 home defeat to Egyptian giants Zamalek SC.

The dream of reaching the final of the competition in their maiden participation has come to an end for the MTN FA Cup champions.

The Ghana Premier League side was in high hopes of booking a ticket to the final after playing out a goalless draw in Cairo a week ago.

However, they were rather stunned by the 2018-19 champions of the competition in the return leg at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Mathlouthi and Akinyoola scored in the 12th and 27th minutes, respectively, to give the White Knights a first-half lead in Kumasi.

Any attempt at a comeback was halted by Shalaby’s 59th-minute strike as the Egyptians dominated till the end of the encounter, leaving coach Karim Zito’s men in abject heartbreak.

A former Ghana and Zamalek player, Felix Aboagye’s warning about the North Africans being much more effective playing away from home during an exclusive interview with Max 89.7 FM last week has manifested itself.

Dreams FC must be proud of themselves for what they have achieved in Africa this season against all odds, but it has come to an end with lessons learned.

Zamalek SC will face RSB Berkane or USM Alger in the final, with the first leg on May 12 and the second leg on May 19.
