#BlackSatellites: Desmond Ofei recounts his father’s rise at Chelsea

Date:

The head coach of the national U20 team of Ghana, the Black Satellites, Desmond Ofei, has revealed his late father’s rise from grass to grace in the United Kingdom.

Eric Aseidu Ofei, the late father of the Black Satellites head coach, moved to the United Kingdom after serving on a peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan as part of the Ghanaian police force.

As recounted by Desmond Ofei, his father started out as a cleaner with a cleaning service before managing to make his way as an equipment officer for Chelsea FC.

“My dad was a police officer here in Ghana, worked with CID, and had the opportunity to go to the UK after he served as a cleaner in the UK, and luckily, because of the kind of man he was, he worked his way up and got noticed by Chelsea,” he said.

“He worked for a company that went to clean in Chelsea Football Club. The company was dissolved but because he was determined, they kept him. And from a cleaner, he worked his way into the Academy’s kit manager,” he added.
