#MaxAfcon2023: Nwabali the hero as Nigeria beat South Africa on penalties

Date:

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are into the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, beating South Africa 4-2 on penalties.

William Troost-Ekong, the affable captain of Nigeria, gave his country the lead from the penalty spot in the 67th minute of the game.

South Africa’s dead-ball specialist, Mokoena, seems to have broken the hearts of the millions of Nigerians watching from around the world when he simply slotted him the equalizer from the penalty in the 90th minute when it seemed Nigerian would walk away with a 1-0 win, as he sent the match into extra time.

Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Stanley Nwabali, was the hero of the day, as he saved two penalty kicks from the South Africans to ensure his country progressed to yet another final.

The Super Eagles will take on Ivory Coast in the final on Sunday.

South Africa will face DR Congo in the third-fourth place play-off on Saturday.
