The family of the popular waakye seller, Auntie Muni, has confirmed her passing.
The 72-year-old, known for her delectable waakye, succumbed to a short illness at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) in Accra on Wednesday, January 3.
The son of the popular Waakye seller, Arafat, confirmed the news in an interview on Asaase Radio.
“Mummy fell ill, expressing pain, leading us to seek medical attention at the SSNIT Hospital. However, complications arose, prompting her to request discharge,” recounted Arafat.
“After two days, we realized she was still not feeling well, so we rushed her to the University of Ghana Medical Centre for medical attention, and this morning at 3 a.m., she passed away,” Arafat said.
He said prayers will be offered for her at the Cantonment Mosque, after which the body will be flown to Tamale for the burial.
The passing of Auntie Muni, a beloved figure in the culinary scene, has left many in mourning.
