CAF Goalkeeping Elite Instructors Course successfully held in Johannesburg

Date:

The development of African football across all levels is moving at an exciting pace, thanks to the ongoing efforts of the various divisions at CAF.

In addition to the recently concluded CAF Doping Control Officers workshop, the CAF Development Division recently concluded its first-ever CAF Goalkeeping Elite Instructors course in Johannesburg, South Africa.

A total of 17 Goalkeeping Instructors completed the eight-day course that is that ran between 02 – 09 December and was spearheaded by some of the most experienced instructors which included Alejandro Heredia as well as former African football legends, Thomas Nkono as well as Joseph-Antoine Bell.

Working tirelessly towards re-shaping and developing the game on the continent in line with CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe’s bold vision of making African football to be globally competitive, the Division’s rollout of such a programme is designed to produce CAF-accredited instructors who will be spread across the continent in conducting CAF approved Goalkeeping Courses to produce elite goalkeepers in Africa.

Speaking to CAFOnline, CAF Development Division Director, Mr Raul Chipenda emphasised the need to have such programmes, adding that the programme stems from the CAF Coaching Education Programme which was developed in the 2019 CAF Coaching Convention.

“The CAF Coaching convention that was launched in 2019 where CAF created a pyramid of coaching education. In this pyramid we have coaches, goalkeeping coaches, fitness, beach soccer and futsal” said Chipenda.

“Goalkeeping has advanced at an incredible pace and has even become a specialist within football. We have invited Goalkeeping Instructors from across Africa trained and developed to be experts in the field of Goalkeeper Coaching, so that they in turn can train and develop instructors across the continent who will have the right knowledge and skill to produce quality goalkeepers in Africa” said Chipenda.
