CRIME: Alleged Lesbian almost Lynched to Death

Date:

Faustina Darkwa, 38, was pulled by an enraged mob brandishing iron bars and wooden clubs as they said that they were going to rid their neighborhood of homosexuals and accused her of being a lesbian.

The incident occurred when the mob alleged that the woman had been having an affair with a woman in her house located at Amasaman in the Greater Accra Region.

An anonymous eyewitness said this claim was made based only on the fact that Faustina was perceived as a lesbian in the area.

Through the whispering of neighbors and gossip in the area, the youth got wind of the information about the sexual act of the young woman.

She had been having sexual affairs with women and therefore could not control the urge of her sexual orientation, claimed the angry youth. This angered the youth even more, as they jumped on her and gave her severe beatings before she was saved by the police.

They said that, because she had refused the many men who had proposed to her, she then had a sexual preference for women.

Although homosexuality is a crime in Ghana, it may seem that there are a host of people who actively engage in it, according to rumors.
