Ghana’s record goalscorer, Asamoah Gyan, on July 11, 2008, signed for Ligue 1 side, Stade Rennais, in a deal worth €8 million from Italian Serie A side, Udinese.
He played 53 times for the French side, scoring 14 goals before his move to English Premier League side Sunderland, thanks to his historic performances for the Black Stars at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
While in France, the former Liberty Professionals star scored a cracking long-range goal for Rennais against Montpellier on October 24, 2009.
Stade Rennais had gone in front through Les Blues winger Sylvain Marveaux in the 34th minute before Senegalese striker Moussa Sow doubled their lead ten minutes into the second half.
The retired Ghanaian striker shot with his right foot, way outside the penalty box, to seal a dominant win over their rivals.
