The music duo Keche has condemned the country’s decision to boost tourism through a funeral policy, saying the initiative lacks foresight.
According to the group, the policy fails to consider the feelings of mourners who have lost their loved ones.
Speaking in a media interview, Keche said the act would indirectly make mockery of mourners who are in a sorrowful mood and condemned the initiative.
The duo insisted that the Minister of Tourism, Dr. Mohammed Awal, could not leverage funerals to boost tourism and was sure the sector minister would give careful thought to the subject matter before implementing the policy.
“I don’t know what he was thinking before he said that, but I think that with the way people have spoken about his funeral tourism initiative, he will have to rethink. Maybe upon a careful second thought, he would realize that he could have presented it in a different way, so I don’t support him in any way,” Keche said.
The duo proposed to the Minister that he consider alternative avenues to promote tourism and the rich cultural heritage of the country other than funerals.
“We have festivals in Ghana, like we do all over the world, and ours are rooted in traditional activities with a rich cultural heritage.
“Even our traditional marriages offer significant potential for advancing the tourism industry. So why should the minister limit his focus to funerals?” Keche queried.
