Following his season-long loan deal from Manchester United on the final day of the transfer window, Mason Greenwood has swiftly captured the hearts of Getafe supporters.
After being sidelined for 18 months, Greenwood made an unexpected transfer to the La Liga team headquartered in Madrid after Manchester United decided not to include him in their first-team lineup.
The decision to leave was made after the 21-year-old experienced legal issues, including accusations of sexual assault, which led to his expulsion from the Red Devils’ team.
But by February 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service had dismissed the allegations because important witnesses had left the case and fresh information had emerged, giving him the chance to return to football.
However, as he was loaned to Getafe, his return will take place in the top division of Spanish football. Upon hearing that the team had decided to sign Greenwood, the crowd erupted in celebration.
As Mason joined his new colleagues for a walkout, fans came to the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, the team’s home stadium, to add to the enthusiasm.
