Faizal Abubakar wins the National Super-lightweight championship at Fight Night 4 of the DE-LUXY Pro Boxing League.

Date:

After a savage fourth round finish of Senator Agbenyo in the headline event of the DE-LUXY Professional Boxing League Fight Night four at the Bukom Boxing Arena last Saturday, Zongo star Faisal ‘Poncho Power’ Abubakar was declared the new national super lightweight champion.

Richard Fenyi, a Swedru native, stunned Victor Kuwornu to capture the national lightweight championship by a unanimous points decision (117-112, 116-112, 113-116) in a double-header contest.

Fenyi’s trainer, Charles Quartey, said in an interview that their success was due to their dedication to training, and that his fighter had a lot to give in his category.

“I am very happy for him, especially his commitment to be an outstanding boxer in future,” Quartey said.

“He has a lot to offer in the lightweight division, and I want boxers in the division to look out for him.”

Fight Night on Saturday drew a large crowd as fans were treated to a night of thrilling bouts that have been synonymous with the league since its inception on February 19 of this year.

Aside from the fights, boxer-tuned musician Bukom Banku and Fatozia entertained the crowd with some local songs in the intervals.

In other fights, newcomer Yahaya Yusif of The Gym knocked out Benjamin Nii Sacka Bulley of Palm Springs in the second round (2:49) in their six-round Super-middleweight bout to start his pro career.

Fit Square Gym’s Elvis Ahorga defeated Seconds Out Gym’s Lesko Sissoya in a six-round Super-welterweight bout.

In a lightweight bout, Azumah Mohammed of Sonia Gym defeated Amebler John of Sea View Gym, with the judges scoring the fight 60-55, 59-55, 60-54 in Mohammed’s favor.

Akotoku Gym’s Isaac Taylor defeated Panix Gym’s Adam Hab Deen Salanon in a Super-flyweight bout, with the judges scoring the fight 60-55, 57-57, and 59-57.

After his opponent Daniel Gorsh of Wisdom Gym failed to show up for their featherweight bout, Attoh Quarshie Gym’s Akimus Annan Ampiah won in a walkover, while Mohammed Fuseini of C.Q.B. Foundation won without throwing a fist after his opponent failed to show up for their bantamweight bout.

Mohammed Ablorh, a bright kid, proved a mouthful for Prince Larbie in the much-anticipated juvenile battle, as he wowed the spectators with some fantastic ring craft and movement.

The next fight night (Fight Night 5) will take place at the Bukom Boxing Arena on Saturday, April 30 and will be televised live on Max TV and streamed on Facebook @maxtvgh .
