Chris Hughton, the head coach of the Black Stars, has recognized the value of captain Andre Dede Ayew to the squad, calling him a mentor to the younger players.
The coach, in a pre-match presser, expressed confidence in the France-based player’s ability to guide the team in the qualifying stages as Ghana aims for her fifth world cup.
“Dede Ayew is still a very good player and somebody that can be the best player in training,” Hughton affirmed.
“He is captain, a very good influence on younger players, and not just about his playing ability.”
Hughton’s remarks, characterizing the captain as the ideal man to lead the team, are in line with veteran sports journalist Nana Darkwa Gyasi’s assessment of the captain’s abilities.
Ghana will take on Madagascar at 4 p.m. on Friday, November 17, in a FIFA World Cup qualifier at Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
