2025 GHALCA ELECTIONS: John Ansah Secures Resounding Victory

Date:

The 2025 Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) elections concluded with a decisive win for John Kofi Ansah, who secured the chairmanship role with an overwhelming 96 votes against sports lawyer Isaac Wilberforce Koomson’s 35.

The polls, held at the Accra Sports Stadium on Thursday, January 23, 2025, marked the beginning of a new era for the club welfare body.

John Ansah, previously the Vice Chairman of GHALCA, will now lead the association for the next four years. His victory reflects significant support from stakeholders, reportedly bolstered by backing from Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku. Ansah’s campaign focused on continuity and strengthening GHALCA’s role as a pillar for club welfare.

Isaac Koomson, a former executive council member known for advocating reforms, fell short despite a spirited campaign.

In a historic move, Phyllis Marku Moncar became the first woman elected as GHALCA Vice-Chairperson, amassing 94 votes against Nana Amankwah Kwakye’s 34. Marku’s election signals a progressive shift in the organization, emphasizing inclusivity in leadership.

For the Men’s Premier League representative, Fred Tindan from GoldStars emerged victorious with 26 votes, outpacing Joseph Nkoo of Asante Kotoko (18 votes) and Abdul Rahman Yakubu of Vision FC (14 votes).

Gabriel Godwin Kwao, unopposed for the Regional Football Association representative role, secured 23 votes against seven rejected ballots. Other unopposed winners included Patrick Martey Boye (Treasurer), Eric Opoku (Division One League representative), and ASP Naomi F. Abdulai (Women’s Premier League representative).

With the Kudjoe Fianoo-led administration concluding its term, the newly elected executives are poised to address pressing challenges and further the association’s mission. Stakeholders anticipate Ansah’s leadership will bring stability and innovation, balancing continuity with progress.

As GHALCA enters this new phase, the overwhelming mandate given to John Ansah and his team signals a unified desire for stronger advocacy and growth for Ghana’s football clubs.
